How to Fix ‘Outside Your Home Area’ Problem on YouTube TV Image

Several months ago, users of the YouTube TV app noticed that they were getting the ‘Outside your home area’ message on their devices that made it impossible to use them. The problem appeared on Android TV devices and other affected ones include Chromecast with Google TV, Roku, and some others. The problem still bothers some users, so here are several ways you can fix it.

Normally, the message that people get should appear when the device changes its location. It is a safety measure that switches on when a hacker tries to access your Google account remotely. The issue is that users that haven’t moved recently got the message and thus it was triggered falsely. This has also been proven by the fact that a number of users have suddenly started complaining about the same problem. Many said that completing the verification process didn’t help and the same applies to choosing ‘I am in my home area.’

If you are getting this problem, YouTube offers the following steps to fix it:

  • Go to the YouTube TV app on your console, streaming device, or smart TV.
  • Click on Profile Icon and then Location.
  • Choose Current Playback Area and Click Update.
  • When you do this, you should go to the YouTube TV app on your smartphone and repeat the same process.

You may have to complete this process several times for the changes to take place. In the case that the mentioned method doesn’t help, you should try completing 2-factor authentication on your phone and at tv.youtube.com/verify. Hopefully, doing this will help resolve the problem for you. If not, you should report the problem to YouTube.
